It was less than 10 years ago that I was riding a Heritage Softail Clasic, my 4th Harley Davidson. I loved that bike.
Now I'm riding an eletric bicycle.
How things do change... and in my case it is due to aging and illness.
I'm sure I'll have loads of fun riding my little doggies around with this bike but taking it on its first run down my street today sure did bring back old memories of my biking days. I had motorcycles for over 20 years and never thought I'd be without one. That's life... I guess.
I didn't realize how fast 15 mph can feel on a bicycle. I don't think I'll need that much speed for what I'm wanting to do. The seat will be the big problem. I only rode for a short time up and down my street and my behind was feeling the pain of that awful seat. I'll have to put some padding on it if I'm to ride for any distance at all. At one point I was standing while riding because it hurt so bad. I'll figure something out.
I tried riding in a field of grass and didn't have much power of movement and had to pedal hard to move forward. Once on cement it was easy riding. I'm hoping that when I ride it on the beach that it will move easy across the hard sand. I'm pretty sure it will but can't wait to try and find out for sure.
Hoping to be at the beach sometime next week.
Just go to a bicycle store (or even Walmart) and get and new bigger cushier seat. I have had to do that with every bicycle I have bought.
ReplyDeleteHi Chris... Not sure that just any seat will fit this bike. It has a flip type seat that allows access to the battery. I looked on the website for this bike and there are no other seats offered. Will probably go to my local bike shop and ask if it possible to fit a different seat to my set up. Meanwhile, I sewed some elastic straps onto a pillow which attaches to the seat and it makes a world of difference when riding. It looks tacky but it feels so much better.
DeleteI did added both a new seat and a gell pad to mine. Can't have too much comfort!
ReplyDeleteHi Karen... I agree about that comfort. It didn't take long for my bones to bet bruised and sore on that seat. I sure hope I can get a gell pad that will fit my bike.
DeleteI can't understand why they can't make a comfortable bike seat that comes with the bike. I always have to buy a new seat, too, but that's for a regular bike. I hope the bike store guy has a solution for you.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara... I agree. I ordered a really comfortable seat for the 3 wheeler that got stolen. Now I'll have to find one that will fit this particular bike. Meanwhile, I made a makeshift cover for the seat out of a pillow. It made a lot of difference in the ride.
DeleteLooking good on both!! Hope the new bike gives you lots of enjoyment.

HI Melissa... Thanks for the compliment. Hope you had a pleasant stay at Grand Isle.
DeleteYes, we had a wonderful time at Grand Isle - it is a Grand Isle!!. No luck in finding one of your rocks but not without a lot of trying. It was like a scavenger hunt for us!! Bought shrimp and sheepshead fish from the place you suggested - yum. Just spent the week soaking up the Isle. Went off to Tickfaw (park was OK - served our purpose) and now are in Mississippi doing Natchez & Vicksburg then back into Louisiana - not sure where we are going to be staying but want to see Alexandria and surrounding area. Then who knows but we have to head back north for around April. Hope all goes well with your bike and the fur babies love it!! Maybe we will meet sometime in Grand Isle - who knows. Take care Melissa
ReplyDeleteHi Melissa... Sorry you couldn't find one of my Peace Rocks. I was sure it was still there but glad someone found it. Funny you should mention Natchez as I was planning to do the Natchez Trace Parkway all the way to Nashville and returning through the Carolinas.
DeleteEnjoy your trip and safe travels.
The Natchez Parkway is amazing!! Love that you moved to an electric bike. You may need to ask your local E-bike expert for some more power on the sand. Look out for the soft pockets! ;)
DeleteAlso...no worries about your bum. All riders of all ages and all bikes experience saddle sore for awhile. Just ride, and rest. Soon you won't even notice it!
Hi Traveling Man... Have you traveled the Natchez Trace? I'm looking forward to it. I don't think I would ever get used to the bike seat that I now have. However, I rode around on it today with the pillow cover I made for it and it was not so bad. It will do until I get around to the bike shop and look around for a larger gell seat.
DeleteWhat great fun. Can't wait to hear how it worked on the sand.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a replacement seat will work with added padding. Have fun.
Hi JO... I'm hoping that my little pillow that I made for the seat will work for awhile. May go to the bike shop tomorrow and see what they have. It's raining today so maybe when the weather clears up I can go to the beach and try it out. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI agree that the bike manufacturers should make the seats more comfortable. Don't they have a QC department to sit on them for a while? The gel seats do help some
ReplyDeleteHi Janice... I can't imagine that anyone who rode on this seat could find it comfortable. I think they just put on the cheapest seat to sell the bike.
DeleteThanks for stoping by.
