COUNTDOWN CLOCKS

I recently read a blog that mentioned setting a date for departure as a way of organizing a schedule.  So I decided it was time for me to do so.  I have been planning a trip to Texas for about a year now and many obstacles have gotten in the way of seeing that trip become a reality.  I have been waiting for the sale of some property for funding of this trip but that may not happen in time.  So I've decided to pull some money out of savings and take this trip anyway in November.  I also plan to take a trip to Washington D.C. in March.  So now that I have these dates sort of set in stone (of the font type) I feel that there is no turning back.

I plan to stay in Texas about a month.  My trip to D.C. will take me through 6 states - all of which I will want to explore on the way back.  I expect that this might take about a month as well.

I will be meeting up with some solo travelers in Texas but have no one to travel with or meet up with on the D.C. trip.  I have been researching RV campgrounds around D.C. and as I don't have a toad I'll want to stay as near to the Washington Mall as possible.  Any suggestions???

  1. There are some campgrounds in Virginia that are near the Amtrak/commuter stations which will take you into D.C. I don't remember the names of them, we went to D.C. in 2008 and stayed at some campgrounds that had cabins, we did not have an RV at that time.

  3. Hi Teri... I found a campground called Cherry Hill (in Maryland) which claims to be the closest RV park and campground to Washington, D.C.

City busses stop in the campground hourly, and take you to a Metro stop only minutes away. So far, that sounds good to me.

Carolyn... have you been to Port Aransas????

  4. Yes I have. I've been all along the coast. My favorite place is South Padre Island. If you like birding and such .... the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife is just wonderful.

Brownsville and the Rio Grande Valley ... all in that area...

Rockport/Fulton, Port Aransas and Mustang Island... that whole area is really fun also.

Here's a blog of a guy who spends most of his time in that area...

    Old Fat Man Adventures... ;)

  5. Carolyn... thanks for the info. I do follow OFMadventures and will look for his photos of the area.

I'm especially wanting to find a beach that will allow vehicle parking next to the water's edge.

$20 for an annual fee... I just like to be a round a city or town more.

South Padre has a lot to offer. I love sitting at that little kiosk type Oyster watching the dolphins play... great stuff

I plan on staying there for a time. Chris from Vermont posted photos of RVs on the water's edge in the Port Aransas area on her Facebook page. I'll just have to see when I get there. Very exciting.
