O'Leno State Park - High Springs, Florida

Left Torreya State Park this morning around 10:00 and arrived at O'Leno State Park around 2:00 this afternoon.  Stopped once for gas and once at a rest stoop.  Florida has the nicest rest stops with night security.  In fact, I'm thinking about sleeping overnight at a couple on my way home.

Tomorrow is the big day.  I plan on being at the RV lot before noon.  I checked the website and my chosen camper is still there - so that's good.  He had it on Ebay for awhile but it didn't sell.  It must be waiting for me.

Will post photos when I get back home.

Check out this blog for a good write up of O'Leno.

  1. Am anxiously awaiting the outcome of your 'shopping'. I have wondered if I can downsize in the future....although I'm already pretty tiny. Good Luck. Will also be wondering how the rest stop stopovers will be for you. Are you able to sleep over at any Florida rest stop or are they specially marked.

  2. I don't know about specially marked spots but I figured if they have night security I could sleep there. Maybe I'd better check. Thanks.

  3. I would definitely check......in general it is hard to find free camping in Florida, even a lot of the Walmarts won't let you.

    1. I checked on the internet and there is a 3 hour limit... oh well. There goes my plan. I've spent the evening searching for different stops for my trip back home. I'd like to take my time and only drive 2 hours a day and drive along the coast for awhile. Plan on seeing Destin. Of course this all depends on what I drive back. There is a possibility I may still be driving the Class C. Hope not but it all depends on the "deal" that I get.

  4. I can't wait to see what happens - I hope you get the "chosen camper."

I wonder if the night time security is to make sure people don't stay all night. I've slept all night and enjoyed the morning in rest stops that have signs stating you can stay only 8 hours. I've arrived around 4 or 5 in the afternoon and stayed until 10 the next morning. Of course, I was ready to drive on if anyone knocked on my door.

Sometimes rules are posted to allow eviction of overnighters who are not being good citizens. 3 hours isn't very much though. A bit to eat and rest, or a 3 hour nap is about all you could do in that time. Of course, you could get there and go to bed right away and see what happens. If they rouse you, at least you'd have some sleep for the continued driving you'd need to do. (You could always plead sickness - a good bout of the flu might make them leave you alone overnight. LOL )

    1. Hi Barbara... I decided not to sleep at the rest stops. Found a couple of inexpensive campgrounds close to interstate 10. Thanks for the info.

    1. Hi Donna... A GTG would be nice. This trip has to be a short one as I left the cats at home. They are OK for about a week with plenty of food and water but I need to get back quick. Good to hear from you.
